Yukako Shima is a Japanese glass artist who specializes in creating adorable blown glass art. She began her glass journey while majoring in glassmaking at Joshibi University. Fascinated by the fun process of blown glass, she chose it as her medium.
During college, Yukako suddenly wondered what stuffed animals would be like if they were made of glass. After numerous experiments creating cute stuffed animals with her favorite blown glass techniques, her unique style was born. Her artwork is simple, yet with just a millimeter of difference, the facial expressions of her pieces can go from "just right" to "very wrong." Every piece of her glassware meets Yukako’s standard of “stuffed animal perfection.”
If you’re wondering why there are no cats in her collection, her response is something that all cat lovers can relate to: “I can’t create a cat that is cuter than cats themselves!” Yukako is still on her journey to improve, and one day, she hopes to confidently create her favorite animal—cats.
Yukako believes that stuffed animals universally deliver joy and a calming effect, so she hopes you will feel the same when you see her art. :)
