With a background in interior design, Akaiboushinoki ("Wood and a red hat") has explored many creative paths, from architecture firms to companies that make physical products. After working in different design fields like display design and product design, Akaiboushinoki eventually found their way to illustration. In 2022, a wish to draw on wood led to the beginning of their wood carving journey.
Akaiboushinoki’s carvings often feature tiny characters who always look just a little bit concerned. Each one is hand carved, hand painted, and completely one-of-a-kind. But it is not just the carvings that make Akaiboushinoki’s work special. The playful titles and little after stories, illustrated scenes that come with each piece, feel like quiet whispers from the figurines themselves and have become a signature part of Akaiboushinoki’s world.
